Ramjet (5-year-old colt, sire: Majestic Warrior), winner of the 2024 Tokyo Derby, has been transferred from the Ritto-based Sasaki Seizo stable to the Ritto-based Matsunaga Mikio stable after the former disbanded upon retirement in March. On May 12, it was revealed that the horse is targeting the Jpn3 Mercury Cup (July 20, Morioka Racecourse, dirt 2000m) for his return.
In his final race before the transfer, Ramjet finished eighth in the February Stakes. After crossing the line, the jockey dismounted, but the horse has since recovered smoothly and is continuing his conditioning at a grazing farm ahead of his comeback race.
Trainer Matsunaga commented, “He has improved a lot at the grazing farm. Considering factors like the weight assignment, I think that race (Mercury Cup) will be the right timing.”
