Newcastle United are nearing an agreement to secure Lewis Miley on a new long-term contract, according to reports.

The 20-year-old’s current contract runs until 2029, but the Magpies are eager to offer him improved terms to reflect his growing importance to the squad.

While an official announcement is not imminent, as details are still being finalised, both sides are said to be keen to reach a deal.

Miley has established himself as a regular first-team player over the past two seasons, making 80 senior appearances and contributing 14 goals or assists. Primarily a central midfielder, he has also been deployed at right-back by manager Eddie Howe this season following injuries to Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier, impressing in the unfamiliar role.

A serious injury picked up in training last week has ruled Miley out for the remainder of the season, but he is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season.

Newcastle are focused on securing the youngster’s long-term future, especially with Trippier set to leave at the end of the season. Livramento’s situation at St James’ Park is also uncertain, with Manchester City and Arsenal reportedly monitoring him closely. The Tyneside club may be reluctant to sell, though a substantial offer could test their resolve.

Newcastle have endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign, currently sitting 13th in the Premier League with two games left. Despite the struggles, the club hierarchy plan to retain Howe as head coach.
