Kevin Gausman of the Toronto Blue Jays reached the milestone of 2,000 career strikeouts during the home game against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 11. The 35-year-old right-hander struck out H. Feducia swinging in the fourth inning to achieve the feat.
Gausman is now the sixth active player to reach 2,000 strikeouts, joining Justin Verlander (3,554), Max Scherzer (3,499), Chris Sale (2,635), Gerrit Cole (2,251), and Yu Darvish (2,075). He also ranks tied for 90th in MLB history alongside A. Benes.
In the start where he sought his third win of the season, Gausman pitched only 4 2/3 innings, his shortest outing of the year, allowing 10 hits and 7 runs (6 earned) while recording 5 strikeouts.
